What To Pack For Your Trip To Sundog
A few insider tips to help you arrive ready for everything the mountains have to offer.
What’s Already Here
Sundog is stocked with the essentials so you can focus on the adventure.
You'll find fresh towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus kitchen staples like olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and spices. We also provide starter coffee, sugar, and creamer to get your first morning going.
Just bring yourself, and the items below.
ALL SEASONS
Slippers or cozy socks — We keep Sundog a shoes-free space so the floors stay clean and comfortable for every guest. Tuck a pair in your bag and thank yourself later.
Swimsuit — The community hot tub is open year-round. Don't be the person who forgot one.
Reusable water bottle + electrolytes — At 8,200 feet, dehydration sneaks up on you. Drink more than you think you need.
Sunscreen — High altitude means stronger UV, even on cloudy days.
Waterproof layers — Mountain weather changes fast. A packable shell earns its place in your bag every season.
Portable phone charger — We have chargers inside the condo, but you'll want one on the trails. A dead phone in the backcountry isn't fun, even more so if you use your phone as your camera.
Lip balm — Dry mountain air is relentless. Pack two so you don't lose one.
WINTER
Hand warmers — A few in your jacket pockets make a real difference on cold lift rides.
Confirm your vehicle is AWD/4WD, snow tires, or pack tire chains — It’s required on the drive through Berthoud Pass and throughout Grand County. If you're renting a car, verify before you pick it up.
Goggle defog wipes — Small, easy to forget, very annoying to need.
SPRING
Waterproof hiking boots — Trails can be muddy and snow-patchy well into May. Waterproof beats water-resistant here.
Beanie + gloves — Spring in the Rockies will surprise you. Late-season snow is common and mornings stay cold well into June.
Sunglasses with UV protection — Snow glare at altitude is no joke, even in April.
Trekking poles — Useful on slippery or uneven spring terrain.
SUMMER
Bug spray — Evenings can sometimes get buggy, especially July and August.
Small day pack or hydration pack — Grand County has miles of trails worth exploring.
Cooler + foldable blanket — Perfect for a day at Lake Granby or a trailhead picnic.
Binoculars or a real camera — Elk, deer, the occasional moose or bear. Wildlife sightings are common and you may want more than your phone.
FALL
Layers — Fall temperatures can swing 30+ degrees between morning and afternoon. Bring layers to maximize comfort.
Trekking poles + waterproof hiking boots — Leaf-peeping hikes are phenomenal but trails can get slick with wet leaves, ice and early frost.
Binoculars or a real camera — Fall foliage and elk rut season. One of the most underrated times to visit Colorado.
